Highlights and Novelties
1. New and potential control object when compared to other familiar control objects. Nitrogen separator system using pressure swing adsorption (PSA) adsorbent beds and connection valves operate cyclically. Mathematical equation describing the adsorption process in the adsorbent bed is a partial differential algebraic equation (PDAE)

2. Due to the strong nonlinearity and the large influence from the cyclic operation of the PSA technique, Sampling data is collected by using simulation software: gPROMS

3. Explicit model predictive control (EMPC) significantly reduce the amount of online computation and is a suitable choice for predictive control in practice.

Manuscript Abstract
Since being commercialized in the 50s of the 20th century, the pressure swing adsorption (PSA) has been increasingly improved in terms of size, flexibility and complexity to be widely applied in the field of gas separation in general and nitrogen separation in specific. The design of the control system to achieve the quality of the product is difficult due to the strong nonlinearity and the large influence from the cyclic operation of the PSA technique. The specific research object of our work is a two-bed nitrogen separator system using PSA with carbon molecular sieves (CMS) as adsorbent material. This paper presents an approach through approximating the dynamic model of system. System Identification Toolbox of MATLAB is used to estimate approximate model from measured input-output data obtained by running gPROMS software many times. Model predictive control (MPC) controller is designed and verified by simulating a closed-loop system model built on MATLAB.
