Highlights and Novelties

Firstly, we proposed a hybrid system that effectively combines RF and solar energies.
Secondly, we have designed the system to add power to the devices which have different power consumption.
Finally, we improved system performance, the conversion efficiency from solar energy and RF energy to DC power.

Manuscript Abstract
Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) have many different applications ranging from civilian to military fields. In recent years, the energy harvesting approach emerges as a potential candidate to tackle energy problems for WSNs. This approach can provide a convenient power supply for wireless devices by exploiting ambient energy sources such as solar energy, RF energy, wind, vibrant, etc. Energy efficiency in WSNs has a critical role since the networks are often deployed in harsh conditions which may not easily be accessed by humans. This paper proposes a hybrid harvester circuit that combines the stand-alone RF and solar harvester circuits to solve the above problems. Each sensor node is equipped with a rechargeable battery which is charged by harvested power from this hybrid system. By this proposed method, safe and continuous operation of WSNs can be ensured even there is a shortage of harvested power due to bad weather conditions such as cloudy or rainy days.
